APTN and CBC to Profile Unearthed MMIWG Cases
Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) has announced today its plans with CBC to co-broadcast, Taken, a documentary series to help solve the mysteries behind Canada’s missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (MMIWG), produced by Lisa Meeches and Kyle Irving of Eagle Vision (Sharing Circle and We Were Children).
As the first Aboriginal broadcaster in the world and Canada’s only independent Aboriginal network, APTN recognizes the importance of portraying the realities of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples.
“Taken is a significant project that will make lasting, positive social impacts on the country by addressing and raising awareness in regard to the issue of MMIWG,” says Jean La Rose, APTN’s Chief Executive Officer. “As a cultural institution that bridges the relationship between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Peoples, we endeavour to offer programming that brings overlooked issues to light.”
