There is no limit to expressing one’s own creativity because it comes in unique ways. For instance, Indigenous people in Canada have a great history of art that dates as far as the last Ice Age (between 80,000 – 12,000 years ago)[1]. Indigenous artwork plays a huge role in most Indigenous people’s lives. It can help them to heal from traumatic events, including loss of a loved one, and personal trauma. Lately, some people are creating Indigenous artwork in honour of missing and murdered Indigenous women in Canada, and to support the families of MMIWG. Part of telling the stories featured in each episode of Taken involves recreations of elements of these women and girls’ lives. In telling the story of Emily Osmond, who at 78-years-old went missing from her home in Kawacatoose, Saskatchewan in September of 2007, it was clear that the episode needed to include Emily’s dogs. Emily was a generous woman who loved and respected every living creature, and would take in any unwanted dogs from her community. At the time of her disappearance, Emily had over thirty dogs in her care. Emily’s dogs were a clue that she did not leave of her own will. Leaving the dogs she loved would surely mean their demise. by Katarina Ziervogel Prostitution was one of the world’s first and most ancient professions. Long before prostitution gained a social stigma, it was criminalized and turned dangerous worldwide. The profession of prostitution all began in 3rd millennium BC. It was invented by the Sumerians of ancient Mesopotamia, who worshiped Ishtar the goddess of love and war. [1] The women of Ishtar’s service received men’s offerings to her temple through their sacred bodies. Other ancient religions took a similar practice. The women in the practice of prostitution were treated with respect and the practice was legalized, with regulations to ensure the safety and rights of these women.
